Installing Polar Blox Snow Guards with SB-190

SB-190 can be used to attach compatible Polar Blox snow guards without penetrating the metal roof.

It may also be used as a sealant beneath mechanically fastened snow guards.

Important: Adhesive-mounted snow guard holding capacity depends on the specific guard, roof surface, preparation, curing conditions, and installation method. Follow the applicable Polar Blox installation instructions and verified load specifications.

Surface Preparation and Application Instructions

For proper adhesion, surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of dust, dirt, oil, waterproofing agents, and release agents.

Application Steps:

  1. Cut the cartridge nozzle at an angle to create approximately a 1/4" opening.

  2. Puncture the inner cartridge seal.

  3. Apply the desired bead size using steady, uniform pressure.

  4. Tool immediately after application to ensure complete contact with both sides of the joint area.

  5. Allow sufficient curing time before exposing the installation to its intended load.

Minimum Application Temperature: 50°F.

Do not apply to wet or contaminated surfaces.

Curing Time and Temperature Requirements

SB-190 begins to form a surface skin within approximately 20–25 minutes.

For a 1/8" bead, the stated curing progression is:

Curing Stage Approximate Time
Surface Skin Forms 20–25 minutes
80% Cured 3 days
90% Cured 2 weeks
Full Cure 7–28 days, depending on conditions

Important: Temperatures below 50°F can substantially slow or stall the curing process. Proper curing time must be allowed before the installation is subjected to snow or ice loads.

Application Limitations

SB-190 is not recommended for:

  • Soft expansion joints

  • Polystyrene

  • Plastics containing styrene

Always verify material compatibility and follow applicable manufacturer instructions.
